Abstract

Extracellular matrix (ECM) plays a fundamental role in the tumor microenvironment of glioblastoma (GBM), influencing its progression and prognosis. This retrospective study analyzed the relationship between ECM deposition and survival in 22 patients with IDH-wild type GBM, diagnosed according to the 2021 WHO classification. Tumor samples were evaluated by Masson's trichrome staining and digitally quantified to determine ECM deposition, classifying patients into “HIGH” and “LOW” groups. The results indicated that higher ECM deposition was associated with significantly reduced survival (p < 0.005), with a lower risk of death in the low deposition group (HR = 0.07; p = 0.02). These findings suggest that MEC may act as a potential prognostic indicator for GBM, highlighting the need for further studies to validate its clinical applicability.
