Abstract

Introduction: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype characterized by the absence of estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors. This molecular profile restricts treatment options, positioning chemotherapy as the primary therapeutic approach. TNBC is more prevalent among young women and is frequently associated with BRCA1 gene mutations. Pembrolizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the PD-1 pathway, enhances the immune response by enabling T lymphocytes to recognize and destroy tumor cells. Objective: To investigate immunotherapeutic strategies for the treatment of TNBC, with a focus on pembrolizumab as a potential alternative to conventional therapies, aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Methods: This two-phase study involved: (1) an integrative literature review using the descriptors “Neoplasms,” “Therapy,” and “Hospitalized Children,” selecting full-text Portuguese articles published within the last eight years; and (2) the development of a therapeutic comic book (CET). Results: Ten studies were included and thematically categorized into: general chemotherapy principles, most prevalent side effects in pediatric oncology patients, and recommended physical and emotional care strategies. The CET was divided into two parts: the first narrates the story of “Super Action,” a hero character illustrating cancer, chemotherapy, and side effects in a child-friendly manner; the second outlines essential supportive care during treatment. Conclusion: The comic book is a supportive intervention aimed at improving the quality of life of pediatric oncology patients. It facilitates better understanding of cancer and chemotherapy, encourages treatment adherence, and promotes a positive self-image and family involvement.
